Model 70?

MrDig

.410
Is this in fact a Mossberg Model 70, It says Western Field .410 gauge. It has no Serial Number and no other Markings.

It is a single shot and you have to pull the knob on the back end of the bolt to bring it fully into battery to fire.

Looks like a Model 70 to me.

Mossberg made guns for Mongomery Ward and they were sold under their house brand Western Field. Serial numbers weren't required by law until the Gun Control Act of '68, so it's no surprise that there are none. The model 70 was made 1933-34, then replaced in 1935 by the Modlel 73 which had steel swivels added to the stock. If you've got no swivels, you've got a model 70.

Great lookin shooter by the way...

I was about 12 when my neighbor sold it to me for $10.00 plus a Rabbit or a Pheasant which ever I shot first. My dad gave me $10.00 and said he would get my mom to pay him back out of my Birthday money.
I still hunt small game with it.
