New Rifle Break In. Varmint 1st Shots

Great day for shooting yesterday. Brought the MVP Varmint and 2 other rifles.

First time out with the MVP Varmint since I got it. Had the scope zeroed within 4-5 shots, so I started sending lead and copper into the mountain backstop. I didn't really expect too much for the first 20 or so shots, as I was breaking the barrel in. But after about 10 shots, this rifle started putting the holes closer and closer together. I shot a total of 12 groups, all at 100 yards. Some 3 shot and some 5 shot groups. 5 of my 5 shot groups were under 3/4", with my best at .572".
Had 2 (3 shot) groups under 1/2" with my best 3 shot group of the day under 1/4" .233"
The accuracy potential of this rifle, may yet improve, as the barrel may still need to fully break in. And I have a few more handloads I would like to try. The groups shot yesterday were all 55gr to 69 grain bullets. The most accurate load so far has been 55gr Dogtown (Midway USA) HPFB bullet, 25gr Hodgdon CFE-223, CCI No. 400, Lake City 09' trim to 1.755 COL. 2.235 and Lee Factory crimp between medium and heavy.

Overall, this is now one of my favorite rifles. Going back out Saturday for round 2 of shooting.

Nice shooting.

I am slightly confused by the lack of frozen white stuff on the ground. Are there actually places immune from this deep freeze? LOL

Very nice shooting indeed! Any particular tweaks on the gun or is it factory stock?

All factory stock. The only thing added besides the Harris bipod, was the muzzle break. But I don't think those helped dramatically with accuracy. I was definitely a happy camper that morning. Thank you.

Pretty good for factory. Don't know if you're into 500meter+ but if you are, have you checked out Rex's video's for extreme long range? http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL ... vDCIcEPxUn

LOL. Yes, but we pay for it in the summer.

I have seen some of Rex's videos on long range. That guy is a wealth of knowledge and skill. I usually refer back to his you tube channel for my continuing education efforts.
