Russia has issued a series of ultimatums for Ukrainian forces in Crimea to surrender and disarm by this morning or risk coming under attack, the new government in Kiev said last night.

As Russian fighters buzzed Ukraine’s borders, the Kremlin defied international pressure to back off and instead turned the screw on its neighbour.

President Vladimir Putin visited military units deployed near Russia’s frontier with Ukraine, where they are conducting “exercises”. The defence ministry in Kiev said the country had been on the receiving end of a series of hostile acts, including incursions by Russian jets flying along its northern border with Belarus.

Every leader in the world knows we have a candy ass in the white house. We will do nothing but yap. We haven't tackled any world issues during this regime. We have not supported friends and have ignored enemy's. We have announced that we will shrink the military. Now the world can laugh at us. While the Ukraine is poised to be steam rolled by Russia, we are having army drag queen shows on a military base. We have become a laughing stock.

Well, the deadline for surrender has passed, and no indication of shots fired or surrender of Ukrainian troops.

Good thing it is the people that they fear, the same thing that's kept all the countries from in these borders for 200 years continues to keep them out to this day.....every blade of grass, plus our military, simply cannot be defeated. Most all other governments hate us, smile to your face. They would love nothing more then a revolution to break out here so they can come kick us while we are down. That's the part I really fear of this entire mess.

The debt we are carrying will soon make many things we have become used to a fading memory.

Since the end of the cold war, Russia and the US have both remade ourselves. Russia bottomed out, rebounded and are growing powerful again. We remade ourselves from the richest nation in the world to 18 trillion (is that what is now?) in debt. Countries like Russia and China as well as the world banks will soon dictate terms to us.

We have been fundamentally transformed.
 
China has been purposefully devaluing their currency to be competitive In The world market. Don't be fooled they have their own economic problems.

Russia isn't exactly the pillar of financial conservatism either.

that's the thing about a revolution here I think. If we start fighting they might drop in here and say "hey, quit blowing our property up or your going to have to fight us too"

Back to topic, not much seems to have changed. Both sides are still repeating what they said yesterday. Does anyone else wonder what our "transparent" president will promise them behind the scenes to not invade the Ukraine.

This will simmer for a few weeks, while the populace and their leaders (including Putin, Obama, the EU, and the UN) try to figure out what to do next. The objectives of all parties remain the same, but changes in tactics are likely.
 
Putin is in the driver's seat...this will go wherever he wants it to go. He had Crimea and it is just a hop, skip and a jump to take all of Ukraine. Once he is entrenched he will not back out. Basically, he is thumbing his nose at the EU and US.
 
He has control of the pipeline like he wanted. Very little the EU can do now unless they want to be cut off.

Lessons learned

Never give up your nukes
Never give up a missile defense system out of good faith

And don't let them fortify a base in Cuba.

If they had any brains they will blockade Cuba now.
