Ive been shooting quite a bit the last 6 weeks or so and after several year lay off its been good. I was pretty happt with everything except at 30 yards i was consistantly left about 3". It agravated me. Over on archery talk i picked up the following tutorial. I followed to a T and i was excellent results. Thought i would share it. I believe the authors name was nutsnbolts.
Ps if you just shoot say 20yds flat ground this may be irrelevant just move your pin for windage but if you shoot in the field hunting etc... Varied distances uphill downhill odd angles and such having your center point dialed in really helps. At least if your nit picky like me were accuracy is concerned. Honestly on targets i dont care that much close is good but on game animals i care alot.

  • You need 10 yards of space to do this.

Let's tackle this one step at a time.

    First,
let's tackle the centershot for the arrow rest
    and
find the correct windage (left-right adjustment) for the pins.

I have a simplified version of something called French Tuning.
Don't worry about what this method is called.

    Very simple to do.

Hang a target face so the bullseye is at your shoulder height.

Put a nail at the top,
    and hang a weighted string,
so the string splits the bullseye in half.

    Now,
start at 9 feet. Yup, just 9 feet.

    Fire a field point arrow.

If the field point arrow misses the string to the left,
then move all the pins to the left. (Adjust the entire sight housing).

If the field point arrow misses to the string to the right,
then move all the pins to the right.

The goal is to nail the string perfectly.
You want your field point arrow to be exactly below the center
    of the bullseye.

    Now,
    go back to 10 yards.

    Fire a 3 arrow group.

Find the center of the arrow group.

If the center of the arrow group is to the left of the string,
move the arrow rest to the right.

If the center of the arrow group is to the right of the string,
move the arrow rest to the left.

Goal is to have the hanging string split your arrow group in half.

    Now,
    go back to 9 feet.

    Fire a field point arrow.

If the field point arrow does not exactly nail the hanging string,
then adjust all of your pins to the left or right,
until the arrow is dead center under the exact center of the bullseye.

    Now,
    go back to 10 yards.

Adjust the arrow rest in tiny amounts,
until the hanging string splits your 3 arrow group in half.

    When you are done,
you can fire a field point arrow from 9 feet
and it will be exactly underneath the center of the bullseye.

Your 3 arrow group from 10 yards,
will also be split in half by the hanging string.

    Now, your centershot (arrow rest)
and your windage (pins) will be perfect.

Now were satisfied to head to the woods on opening day.
3 shots 35 yards standing on toolbox back of truck target downhill.

Ps if you do the string on target use a string ! nOT PARACORD ! Trust me on this.

I haven't picked up a bow or an arrow for over 45 years but I can see that archery has changed a whole lot in that time.

Theres alot of advances been made for sure. But the best hunter i know still uses a traditional recurve bow. He just turned 70 and if ya plan on keeping up with him in the norrh Georgia mountains better eat your wheaties. :)

LOL, My dad ate Wheaties every day of his life. He passed from cancer at 73 but he was still very spry until his lungs gave out. Too much smoking, radiation exposure, and Agent Orange.

Anyhow I've only shot a plain wood longbow and a shorter recurve bow, in fiberglass. I was never much good at it but I never had much practice.

Anyhow I only bring this up because because I saw a boat I liked for sale the other day and it has a bowfishing Tower.

+1 :) bowfishing is a blast ! Ive done it a couple times. Different bow setup much lower weight pull. Typically done at night out off the awful heat off day. Lots of fun. Buy that one ! New addiction.

I surely didn't need a tower today! Nor did I need to be a good shot.

We trolled back into the weeds real slow and drifted out into a huge bed of golden carp breeding in circles all around us.

I took video of jumping, rolling carp & it was pretty dramatic. My wife was sure impressed.
I could have fired into the water around us in a 360 degree circle and hit a carp. Sometimes within three feet of the boat and less.

I haven't really looked at this picture yet but here goes.....
