Maverick 88 Security Houge Tamer Forend installation

Dan Juenger

Copper BB
Recently bought a Houge Tamer pistol grip and forend kit for my 2014 Mossberg Maverick 88 Security. Pistol grip fits nicely (would recommend, except you have to take it off to disassemble for cleaning.) However, the forend does not fit without an action slide tube. I have been unable to figure out which action slide tube to purchase. Is it merely a matter of choice about the 6 3/4" plus the extended nut or a 7 3/4' with a normal length nut? I can provide measurements of the built in action bars if it is not a choice call.

See the instruction photo on this page (it's thumbnail, look around for it and click on it to make it larger).

Since your original forend had pinned action bars, you will need to buy a slide from Mossberg then the forend will fit. It's about $60. See here

And the nut for it

That gives you the slide assembly with the action bars that the Hogue forend needs to go over. If you get that size, you won't need the Hogue nut. Those are parkerized parts, and I'm not sure if your gun is parked or blued. They have blued versions of both of those parts, however, if you need/want those, just look around a bit.

I have the adaptor nut for the short tube at the house collecting dust if you want to give it a try. Get me an address and I’ll send it out.

ETA: pretty sure I have a unused short tube sitting around too.

If you have the tube, too, then that combination should work. The nut alone won't do him any good at all, though. He may as well get the Mossberg part I referenced. But if you have both ... that should work. Short tube plus larger nut, or longer tube and nut, both work. But he has no slide tube at the moment.
