Mossberg 42-MB

bravach

Copper BB
So, let's introduce my little carbine !
It's a 42-MB made in 1941 which had been rent to the UK under the terms of the Lend-Lease contract.
There, the old sight has been taken away and replaced by Parker-Hale PH16D aperture sight.

I was searching for a military training rifle in .22 LR in a local gun shop but I wanted something more special than the traditionnal Mauser or Lee-Enfield. So, the vendor first proposed me a rare Swiss training rifle (a K-11 converted to .22 lr in single shot). But it was far too much for my purses (around 700 euros ! ) and it weighed a lot for me. (wasn't picturing myself carrying it for hours on the shooting range ! )

So, he tchated with his colleague, get away in the back of the shop and showed me this Mossberg. But he was embarassed because it lacked his diaphragm. I still took it because I had never seen a rifle quite like this. It took me some time to find the proper diaphragm by a friend of mine which is specialized in Parker-Hale sight.
Now it's complete, it doesn't get out the 9 on a C50 at 50m (when I'm bored ! ).

Here are some pic's :

What a beauty! That is a great find. I have yet to see one of these in person but hope to one day. Thanks for sharing your rare Mossberg!

The Moss 42MB is a nice little rifle. For some reason we see quite a few here in the Midwest. I have three. One is a complete Lend-Lease rifle, another that is one of the last 1,000 produced with no British Proofs. It is thought that the last 1,000 produced rifles didn't go to Britian but stayed in the US. The last rifle is a sporterized one with Parker-Hale sights front and rear that is threaded for a silencer.

Some news on the subject !

I got to find an original scope and mount (mossberg scope N°6 and wards mount N°10).
But, it took me a while to find the proper screws for the mount because it needs #10-32 screws and those can't be found in Europe (and UK sellers asked too much for a bunch of screws).

And so, I just found two of them yesterday in the old stuff of my father ! What a chance !
(they will do the job until I found original ones)

I really like the look of it ! The scope gives it some kind of steampunk/retro look. :p

Auction on ebay ! ;)
It was harsh but hopefully for me, Euro's gives more buying power than Dollars.
I would have to pay three times the price to get one in an European militaria tradeshow. :?
