Texas prison system running out of execution drug

Well, there's always rope. That worked well for quite a long time.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas
The nation's most active death penalty state is running out of its execution drug.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice said Thursday that its remaining supply of pentobarbital expires in September and that no alternatives have been found. It wasn't immediately clear whether two executions scheduled for next month would be delayed. The state has already executed 11 death-row inmates this year, and at least seven more have execution dates in coming months.

"We will be unable to use our current supply of pentobarbital after it expires," agency spokesman Jason Clark said. "We are exploring all options at this time."

Texas switched to the lethal, single-dose sedative last year after one of the drugs used in its three-drug execution process became difficult to obtain and the state's supply expired. Other death-penalty states have encountered similar problems after some drug suppliers barred the drugs' use for executions or have refused, under pressure from death-penalty opponents, to sell or manufacture drugs for use in executions.

Expires????

Does it instantly become ineffective? I call BS!

Environmentalists would probably object to electric chairs, unless it was powered by wind or solar. Hmmm, maybe a business opportunity there. ;) :D

I've just came up with a brilliant solution. Gather a some inmates and put them on exercise bikes connected to a big capacitor.

It's green and healthy, well, except for the one guy at the other end of the wire.

There would be an initial investment but during the rest of the time they could use the system to power other prison electronics such as washing machines, etc. Thereby reducing their carbon footprint.

I need to patent this.

OK OK OK I have another suggestion. Rent them out to a windmill farm site. They can clean the rotors. No need to shut the tower down just give them a harness and tell them to hold the **** on. Hey I am trying help.

This is the same kinda BS logic that creates an SOP for lethal injection which requires the injection sites to first be sterilized with alcohol. What the hell, are they worried about a corpse getting an infection?

Not sure exactly what the drug is, but does it really matter that it's a few days past expiration? If it'll kill you while it's still good, I'm sure it'll still kill you if it's a little clabbered.

If it has achieved its half-life, double the dose! More is better, right?

See above reply. Give 'em an overdose of meth or heroin...seems to work on junkies. They all die happy. Ok, maybe the Guiness is talking tonight but what the hell...

With all the friggin ammo the gov has purchased lately...I think Texas can borrow some bullets from uncle sam.

There are plenty of bullets in Texas.

They just can't penetrate through all that red tape...

Something doesn't add up here. They just switched to pentobarbital last year. You'd think they'd check into supply beforehand. Also, vets use it to put down animals. Are vets gonna start putting animals on hospice?
