Mossberg 500 Pump Action Customization and Modification

Re: Returning to my roots..."The 500"

Pictures! WOO! haha

Is this the forend that is on the same 500 as the above posted butt stock?
I think we are going to need some more pictures to clear this up :)

Re: Frank's 500 Build

We too like the suspense and "Cliff Hangers" :D
Everyone was very patient with me and how long it took for me to finally get everything done haha
I think I have an idea as to what you have intentions for :) I cannot wait too see your final product!

Re: Returning to my roots..."The 500"

Sorry for the low quality pics... but here she is with wood furniture and the heatshield back on :D

It's not the police style forend, but I'm still happy with the way it looks! much better with the dark stain. I intentionally didn't strip and sand the stock perfectly, I wanted it to retain a sort of rustic feel (Are we talking about a gun??? )

Re: Returning to my roots..."The 500"

Ohh I forgot... the used wood set came with one of the old and hard rubber buttpads, and to my surprise.... the limbsaver one I bought for modifying the synthetic stock fit near perfect with this one :D I believe LOP still measures shorter than stock, around 13.5"

Re: Returning to my roots..."The 500"

Lookin good ak!

Nice job on the refinishing, it looks great...

Re: Returning to my roots..."The 500"

AK,

Great Job. I like the rustic "This ain't my first rodeo" look. Well done.

I also like the paint on the synthetics as well. Nice options to dress her in.

Frank

Re: Returning to my roots..."The 500"

Very Nice!! That answers my question haha
I think the dark colored woods look GREAT on a blued gun and the light wood on the nickel or stainless.
Again, Great Job!

Re: Returning to my roots..."The 500"

I'm also thinking about going with a M1903 type leather sling to complete this setup. The current sling is good, but I don't think it's designed to take the weight of a fully loaded 8 shot 500 (the hardware is plastic :/... but my 10/22 is still looking for a sling :D)

Re: Returning to my roots..."The 500"

I think with the dark wood, that leather sling would only compliment it! That would be something to take a picture of and have on here :D

That is without a doubt 1 of the best looking 500's I've ever seen in my life. And I've been looking at and using them for a real long time.

regards,
Jeff

Well thanks! Maybe once our weather clears I can take the good DSLR camera and take some decent outdoor shots with it... the pictures I have up really don't do her justice :D

Re: Returning to my roots..."The 500"

Aksavanaman,

Do you read the "RECOIL" magazines? Last issue had a REALLY good thing on "Gun Porn" and how too take great pictures indoors and out. I haven't really caught on too the tricks yet but it helped me out a little when using my phone :p

Re: Returning to my roots..."The 500"

That stain really does look good!

Re: New 500- 50521 owner, things to get or do?

Here is a link to my build viewtopic.php?f=17&t=5268 It is the basic HD weapon. The stock pad isn't the best, I switched to a Hogues stock.
As for ammo I got a brick of this Federal LE13200 Low Recoil Flitecontrol Wad, and really like it. I was using Federal Power-Shok 00 2 3/4 which worked very well also. This is loaded at all times. I do use what WalMart has on sale at the range. I don't like to shot bird shot, I use the clays ammo.

Re: New 500- 50521 owner, things to get or do?

i am almost in the same boat as you.

i just picked up a mossberg 500 tactical with the ati 6 position stock and forend strap for home defense and target shooting. heres a list of what i already did

-tac star side saddle $25
-hogue grip sleeve $15
-utg pictinny rail $10
-ati halo heat shield $50 but cant install atm ATI made a mistake and gave me the wrong rails
-nebo light and laser with mount $25
-mossy oak sling w/swivels $15
-Ncstar scabbard $25 i use this to transport my gun and if i have to a defense tool
- a cheap red dot sight $30 i need to shoot it to see how it works might scrap it for some ghost ring sights

as for home defense round i choose 00 buck 2 3/4" , and segmenting slugs for the stoping power. on my side saddle i have 00 buck shot, 1oz slugs, and 2 bird shot rounds for just in case the bird is a zombie. lmao

i am buying another mossberg 500 and making it dual pistol grip in a few weeks. they feel so good in the hand

Light's always an issue up here in AK (at least in the winter :D ) so even at noon, it still has a twilight feel to it. And I don't have any indoor lights that provide good white balance....but I try

Any one have any suggestions on a good quality leather sling? Or how about a good canvas one, kind of like the M1 Garand style... just brainstorming.

Re: Returning to my roots..."The 500"

If Brad (Rossignol) is still making his I would highly recommend one.

~~I'd be interested in a Sling for my Shotgun if this is a possibility!

AK, I like the Specter Gear sling they have for shotguns. It is a 2 point sling and a few users here have them and have spoken highly :) I believe it is Oli who has recently mentioned it
