Re: "Top Shot" Thread

**************************************************************************
OK then...what's the consenses on this weeks show...

My thoughts...It's a shame that Billy of the BLUE Team had to leave, but...family comes first.

The fact the Jerry Miculek was training on the show was pretty cool...I've actually met and shook hands with him at the Smith & Wesson Shooting Sports Center in Springfield, Massachusetts back in 2005 while on travel for work. Real gentleman ...he just popped in while I was waiting in line at their store and I just said "Hey, Jerry !!"...and he walked right up and said good to meet you like a regular guy.

I really liked the firearms this time around...the S&W M686 L Frame .357 Magnum is a gun my brother owns and I have shot on ocassion. The S&W Model 3 Schofield Break Top revolver is something I've wanted ever since I saw the remake of 3:10 to Yuma...and that Volquartsen rimfire looked like a hell of an accurate rifle...I wouldn't mind owning one.

Re: "Top Shot" Thread

I saw it. I'll post later when I wake up.

Re: "Top Shot" Thread

Being totally honest, I liked the show, and the challenges... just none of the firearms turned me on. Each was cool in some way, but thats all I took from it this time around.

Sucked to see Billy go, though I understand and would have done the same thing.

I still dont like Jake and really want for him to leave. I just expect a higher caliber of character from people.

Re: "Top Shot" Thread

i just watched it again. billy made the right choice. to bad to see him go, but family first. the show will go on. he can always try to make another appearance on the show next season. i hope he does. and i wish him n his wife good luck.

i loved the Schofield Break Top revolver. i love old guns, pure and simple, no frills.

still can't stand jake. i really think they will eliminate him because of his attitude and i don't think he is a team player at all. even he said so himself, he's playing for himself. fine sleep outside. it's just that much closer to getting the boot, ya whiner. i'll be happy when he leaves.

Re: "Top Shot" Thread

Maybe we'll see a little Ultimate Fighting thrown in next week when Jake and Big Mike get into it. :mrgreen:

I use to practice quick draw and shooting from the hip when I was a teenager. Shooting those Schofields would have been a blast!

I hear ya bro...the Schofield Model is a classic.

EPISODE #8

RAMP IT UP

Premier Date: 09/27/2011

==================================================================

Contestants must master the Recurve Bow and nail a target by skipping an arrow off a ramp. One team goes to the brink of self-destructing when two teammates almost come to blows during a dispute of a previous elimination decision. There are only eight members left...four to a team.

==================================================================

The first Team Challenge involves the contestants firing at separate sets of 6 targets mounted on rotating wheels 50 feet away, trying to bounce arrows off a metal ramp to hit them. One player at a time per team; a player's turn ends after he has either fired 3 arrows or shot a target that has not yet been hit. First team to hit all of its targets wins. RED] Team's Phil is the first to hit a target and get a point on the board. Then Jake scores the first point for the BLUE Team. After that, the teams rotate back and forth scoring points until it's down to the wire...with Mike of the BLUE Team scoring the winning point.

WINNER: BLUE Team

=================================================================

The nomination picks for the Elimination challenge for the RED Team are: Chris & Cliff

=================================================================

The RED Team members now move on to the Elimination event which involves using the recurve bow again, this time from 20 yards, both players fire at 4 18" two-color targets moving back and forth at different heights. Player with more hits on his assigned color (including accidental hits by his opponent) after 3 minutes and 30 seconds wins. Chris is assigned the yellow and Cliff is assigned the orange targets. Chris is the first to hit a yellow target...and Chris jumps to an early lead, even tho a few of his arrows hit Cliff's orange targets, giving Cliff the point.
But, after going back and forth, both men doing well with the moving targets, it's Chris that jumps ahead to win.

WINNER: Chris ( Chris 15 -- Cliff 10 )

Re: "Top Shot" Thread

OK...

Anyone have any thoughts on tonights competition...?!

And what did everyone think of the choice of weapon...?!

Re: "Top Shot" Thread

I won't say much about the show right now, other than i cannot wait till that unsportsmanlike little buffoon gets the boot.

EPISODE #9

Stacked

Premier Date: 10/04/2011

==================================================================

The individual stage of the competition kicks off with the highly accurate McMillan TAC-50 Sniper Rifle. Taking aim at targets 500 yards downrange, one marksman has a meltdown and struggles to complete the individual challenge. In the elimination, it's all on the line for two competitors as they duke it out with a notorious WWII handgun...the Walther P-38.

The teams were dissolved at the start of this episode. All players received green shirts and began to compete directly against each other for the rest of the season. After the individual challenge, all players voted for one of the lowest performers. The top two vote-getters then competed in an elimination challenge as in earlier episodes.

==================================================================

The first Challenge involves shooting at a moving 30-inch target from 500 yards. The four fastest times to hit it are safe from elimination. Dustin, Jake, Phil, Alex get the fastest times and are saved from elimination.

LOSERS: Gary & Mike

=================================================================

The nomination picks for the Elimination challenge are Gary & Mike

=================================================================

The Elimination event involves firing at separate sets of 36 targets from 35 feet, trying to break the connectors and drop the 8 planks attached to them. Players must work from the bottom up and are each given 30 rounds pre-loaded into magazines. First player to hit all targets and drop the planks wins. Gary wins...

LOSER: Mike

Re: "Top Shot" Thread

OK...so let's hear your thoughts on last nights episode, now that it's a green shirt...head to head contest.

And what are your thoughts on the weapons systems used...!?

Re: "Top Shot" Thread

I personally think that the show will be getting a little better, now that the herd has been culled.

As far as the weapons...I already own a P-38... a Walther / Spreewerk model with a 3 digit serial number from WWII. And she still shoots like she was made yesterday...

P38WALTHER.jpg

The McMillian ?...well, I dream of one day owning enough land with a mountain as a backstop, so that I can finally own a 50 cal. McMillian or Barrett would be in the top five choices... ;)

Re: "Top Shot" Thread

Some good shooting last night. Anyone who has shot 500 yard knows just how tuff it is. The TV didn’t do that distance any justice….although it might be easier with a .50 than a 30-06 lol.
I like all German WW2 guns so that was sweet to see. Jake is still a waist of skin but he pulls through when I expect failure from him…..he has skill…..still wouldn’t want to float the river with him

Re: "Top Shot" Thread

I've never shot 500 yards... looks tough! Most of em made the shot much quicker than I expected!

I dont know much about the McMillian, good lookin bolt gun... Is it the 50BMG or another cartridge? Sorry its a nOOb question, I really dont know! :D

I too like the WWII guns and the P38 is cool, not a Luger, but cool!

Jake... He has skill, but that isnt enough for me. Theres more to the quality of a human being than skill!

Re: "Top Shot" Thread

Yea...the McMillian is a .50 BMG (12.7 x 99 mm) manually operated rotary bolt action with a muzzle velocity 2,700fps.

Two Canadian snipers of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) regiment sniper team made at the time the longest recorded sniper kills in history with this weapon in Afghanistan, during Operation Anaconda, in the Shah-i-Kot Valley. On a March afternoon in 2002, Master Corporal Arron Perry killed an enemy combatant from 2,526 yd/1.435 miles and Corporal Rob Furlong killed an enemy combatant from 2,657 yd/1.509 miles with 750 grain Hornady A-MAX very-low-drag bullets. These were the longest recorded kills by snipers in combat, surpassing the mark of 2,500 yd/1.420 miles set by U.S. Marine Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Hathcock during the Vietnam War. The five-man Canadian sniper team — MCpl Graham Ragsdale (Team Commander), MCpl Tim McMeekin, MCpl Arron Perry, Cpl Dennis Eason, and Cpl Rob Furlong — killed over 20 enemy combatants, and each of the five was nominated for the United States Armed Forces Bronze Star Medal.

These records were later broken in November 2009 by British Army Corporal of Horse Craig Harrison from the Household Cavalry. Harrison struck two Taliban machine gunners in a double kill south of Musa Qala in Helmand Province in Afghanistan, at a range of 2,707 yd/1.538 mi, using a .338 Lapua Magnum chambered British-made L115A3 Long Range Rifle.

Re: "Top Shot" Thread

Cool, Thanks Shooter!

I knew of the Canadian snipers, I didnt know a longer shot had been made!

Re: "Top Shot" Thread

Can you just imagine the sheer terror of those guys by seeing your "comrades" just drop in front of you? And not know where the hell it came from, and not hearing a shot? Oh man..that's just an awesome fear factor.

Re: "Top Shot" Thread

"Drop" or explode?

Sorry about the turn in topic direction, but we'll get back on track soon! ;) Promise!
