MikeD as much as I like federal prison I think I shall decline.
Okay. Here's what a stainless cerakoted 1911 Colt looks like:
See... no big WOW factor.
The roll markings on the left side of the slide are vaguely familiar aren't they?
Of course, the Rail Gun name is plain to see on the other side. Colt used a special serial number range for these.
Here's what sets it apart from many other Colt guns. I've seen several other manufacturers of 1911s only cut three slots, or use cast frames, or not mill out the center so I think Colt took extra steps to make their 1913 rail unique.
Colt also did a nice job of undercutting the frame just behind the trigger. My Springfield lacks this nice feature.
The hammer has zero sideplay and there is thankfully no rubbing on either side of the hammer, which like almost all the Colt parts is made of machined bar stock even down to the small pins throughout the gun. With very few exceptions all the other parts are USA forgings and one or two are castings.
Colt went with the GI recoil spring plug and cap which I appreciate, as my Springfield has a two-piece FLGR and without an allen wrench it can't be disassembled. I think the barrel to bushing fit is just about right, with very very little gap but not so tight as to impair smooth functioning. The bushing is machined bar stock steel. The barrel is a National Match version and is marked
-COLT .45 Auto N.M.- The front sight is nicely flush in the dovetail following the rounded top quite smoothly and the sight blade rests flush on the top of the slide with no gap.
The rear sight is almost exactly like the one on my other duty 1911 so there will be no transition as far as sight picture.
The cocking serrations are different from many other 1911s by Colt and other makers. Instead of a sawtooth cut, or wave, or scales, or whatever, the cocking serrations are squared and wider than sawtooth but not as wide as I have seen on other slides.
Lastly, and inexplicably (to me) the laminated grip panels are cut for a magwell. It's not such a bad idea if some buyers plan to install a magwell after purchase but I think it is a bit "off" nonetheless. And they screwed up the placements of the grip diamonds and screw holes. Heathens!
Thanks for looking!
