1911: Pics and Discussion

Add Colt to the list of rebates being offered this fall. $100 off the 01991 Government Model. I don't think I've ever seen so many deals being offered. It's really a buyer's market this year. I guess there's been a big drop off in sales after last year's gun control threat feeding frenzy.

I know Para has a checkered past but I couldn't resist the sale and, scouring the 1911 forum, most accounts are that their quality and customer service has greatly improved the past couple of years. Basically got a new pistol that normally sells for $800 for $500 after the sale price and rebate. I put 200 error free rounds through it this past weekend. So far so good!! :)

I have been a 1911 fan since I first shot one in bootcamp back in 1986. We carried one on the ship for roving patrol and during quarterdeck watch while in port. I have an RIA 1911 that I have put well over 1000 rounds through and last fall I found this at a gun shop:

She was made in 1914. I have a COA that the shop received from Colt when they sent it in. It is all original. It has never been through the arsenal for rebuilding. The story is that the veteran came home from the war and put it in a drawer in it's holster and that's where it stayed until he passed away in Jan. His son sold it to the gun shop with the holster and magazine holder. I have two original mags for it. It shoots like a dream and isn't all worn out like the ones I shot while in the service.
It now sits in a glass case on my desk with a brass plaque that reads "in case of emergency, break glass."

This is my RIA:

@JoeRotella i have one, i think they'res a pic of if farther back in the thread. only one way to describe it Great Gun. you will not be disappointed. mine is sans lower rail. i think ive ever only had 2 FTF in somewhere near a thousand rounds. those were both with freedom munitions reloads. For the price of the Taurus your getting features found on Springers of a significantly higher price point.

The ROA I have just keeps getting better! Cold shoot, 10 yrds, 5 targets in 10 seconds all in the 10 ring, I am a steady shot, but the accuracy of this gun sure makes me better!

My RIA is my nightstand gun. She just has the original GI sights. I swapped out the grips for ebony. With all the ammo I have ran through it, never had a FTF or a FTE. I would trust my life to that gun. Love the weight, love the size. She can group 1.5 inches at 20 yards mag after mag after mag. All it does is get a little warm.

So is this gun basically good to go?

Since this is 2015 I plan on saving up for another handgun by the end of this year. Thinking 1911 and I've come across this production gun that seems reasonably priced for the quality.

Any first hand experience?

I was originally thinking Heritage but the Valor wasn't that far off.

What says the 1911 experts....

Don't claim to be an expert by any means, but I've been looking into a couple Dan Wesson models as well.

I've personally handled several models and the fit & finish is top shelf. CZ definitely knows how to make 'em. I'm lacking a railed 1911 in my life, so the DW Specialist is right at the top of the list for me. All the reviews I've read are very favorable. It's funny to see this post since I just watched the DW V-Bob and Valor review Hickok45 posted up earlier today...
