I used to do quite a bit of leather work, and now just as a hobby, I have to do something that takes patience and attention, something methodical and meticulous to keep me sane.

I've had an elk antler handle skinner for a long time, it's always needed a sheath and I recently came across a design I really liked. I have a few pics of my "rough draft" if you will. I made a few mistakes, things I'd do differently on the next one. It's functional, but not to my standards.

I'd be happy to upload pics but they're too big, so if anyone is wiling to resize a couple, ill send em your way!

What hobbies do the rest of you do? I mean besides shooting! lol

Thank you and thank you!

I've always wanted a cross draw style, initially I set out to make it to be worn on the front of my left hip until I saw this design.

Yeah, get him started! It's not too expensive to get going with it but like anything else you can spend a small fortune or a kids college savings on it if you want.

Tandy is like the Walmart of leather work. They have decent stuff, relatively inexpensive, and if you're close to one you can go on the weekends for the workshops and kids can make stuff.

Sheaths can be very simple. Look at old bushcraft styled sheaths or even fillet knife sheaths. There doesn't have to be much to them.

If he gets into it, if he's at all interested, let me know. If he has any questions or ideas, you or he can call or text anytime. Ill send pics and even step by step stuff if you want.

It will probably be this summer when he has more time on his hands. Thanks for the offer and I'll keep it in mind. It lends itself to adding to several of his interests.

Bravo sir....Bravo. I like it a lot...great job.....

Very nice work! I like that sheath a lot. :)

As for my hobby, I do woodworking. Did it as a one man business for about 5 years, but never made much profit. Basically paid for tools and supplies and a 6pack once in while. Very small market for custom woodwork around here, and didn't want to get into the on-line thing. I still do some occasional contract work locally, but have mostly gotten away from big projects like staircases or kitchen cabs. This was my last big project. All of it was machined by me from rough cut oak. For the young family in the 2nd pic, who needed the old staircase totally replaced.

Ripjack, I see you did a bullet pen. Looks good, as does everything else. Never got into turning myself. No room, no tools for it.

I bought a bunch of kits. I have a few blanks glueing up today so I can shape em tonite or tomorrow!

Oh...and I even made my own lathe tools...

I made the handle out of an old broken shovel handle I had laying around and put a copper pipe around it as a ferrule. Then drilled a hole in it and epoxied a 1/2" round solid steel rod and ground down the end, and tapped a screw to fit an EWT (easy wood tools) cutter head.

jff01steen, thank you!

The word work is amazing gentlemen! I admire wood working in all forms above many other things. I mean, I weld and I fair well enough with leather, but wood working eludes me.
