Hi, my first post about the sighting issue applicable to carry handle 715T's. (You can call me John, but I AM always "searching for Truth" just like everybody else here.
When I received my 715T, I found the rear sight was WAY over to the right, almost to the end of adjustment. I thought "they never sighted it from the factory", no big deal. (Yeah, it shoots to the left for real)
Then, after cleaning and oiling, I loaded it up with Yellow Jackets (the only thing I shot out of my S&W 6" revolver.
(Even though I am 65,I have never owned anything but my dad's old S&W, so everything is/was new to me. Fortunately, my auto mechanic analytical and diagnosis skills helped with 25rd mag load and feed problem.
I checked in HERE while waiting for my rifle to arrive, so I was up on what to expect from initial performance before I actually had the rifle. THANKS! THAT goes to everyone @ MossbergOwners. com!) The Yellow Jackets didn't want to load SLOWLY, but after removing a couple of jams, I let the action do all the work by just pulling it back and letting it go. (made me a little nervous with rim fire, as I suppose the slide is hitting the rim of the cartridge to load it) It finally loaded the first bullet and fired 10-15 rds before jamming. I switched Rem Sub Sonics ( not plated, lead nose HP) they ran pretty good, with an occasional FTL, FTE (suspect may have been the mag spring chafing on at least one occasion).
With a good supply of Sub Sonics I attempted to sight in the rifle: ZERO @ 25 yds. (backyard firing range)
After finding the stock rear/front sight was not able to ZERO @ 25yds. (would have needed to be around .5 " higher rear sight), I called MOSSBERG:
MOSSBERG asked when I purchased my 715T, I told them around late February-mid-March 2013.
They IMMEDIATELY SAID, "Send it back. There is a problem with the BARREL."
I haven't sent it back yet. I want to check a little further.
My front sight is around 2.7 " from inside diameter of barrel to top of center post of front sight (near as I can tell). What is the height of the flat top front sight, anyone??? I'd really like to know!!!
I think the front sight is too high (duh
). I need to see if the shot arcs off to the right or left after zeroing with a new open reflex sight @ 25yds. and see if it holds its line at 50 without going wide (or wild). I would expect a slightly high hit @ 50yds due to trajectory charts. Please let me know what else I might check out.
I am not crazy to send it back having not had it and time to shoot for very long AND I need a longer range (50 yds.) to see what happens to the trajectory when ZEROED @ 25yds. If it shoots (follows trajectory) I might just keep it and just use the open red/green dot and laser until they know what the real problem is and offer an updated shell (sights).
By the way, I used a laser bore sight that got me close with the red/green dot open reflex holo sight and laser (mounted sight). At 25yds. they cross at zero. I have a feeling the laser (under barrel) is going to more accurate with less variation simply because it is only am inch and a half offset from the barrel.
Let me know where I might be on the wrong track, please. I am using my brain, but this is new to me.
AGAIN, thanks for all the great info and support you have shown that has helped everyone.
This is my contribution (for what it's worth
