Mossberg 930 Home Defense Special 7+1.
It started life as a 28" wood all-purpose field then I switched barrels to the 18.5", and added the SPX +3 magazine extension and spring. Then the Mossberg oversized charging handle to top it off.
I like to call this- "Old-school Tactical"
(EDIT- I sold this to a fellow Massachusetts gun guy this past fall.. The lockdowns took a pretty hard knock on our finances and needed quick cash. I regretted it since)

Hi y’all,
New member here. I just wanted to share a pix of my favorites shotties. The top one is a 930SPX. The two on the bottom are 835s both with the 18.5” security barrel, Magpul furniture, Choate tube extension and ceracote concrete gray. The bottom one has LPA sights.

The 835 with sights is my favorite. When I built it, I didn’t use the forearm adapter. I used a dremal and adjusted the plastic forearm so it fit and works on the 835. Now the forearm is about 3/4 inch back and in my opinion a little more ergonomic.

I have the hunting barrels for the 835s ready to go too. Including a rifled barrel with cantilever rail and 2x scope. All barrels ceracoted gray.

And when I got home I showed Mary and swore to her I wouldn't buy another firearm for the rest of the year, I just love "that look" she gives me

The new Rossi RS22-TB just out of the box. I was about to start the mandatory disassemble and clean, but realized that I don't have a .22 caliber cleaning rod, brushes, etc. It's going to be like a piece of stout wire compared to my other tools. :)

I think I'm going to like the stock sights, and the threaded barrel nut came off by hand - no tool needed. :idk: My FFL has a selection of good .22 suppressors, but by the time you add in the penalty tax, it's 5x the cost of my bargain Rossi.

Kevin (Husker), I've found with .22 cal noise suppression can be greatly improved simply by bullet selection. And hundreds cheaper less paperwork than adding a suppressor. But you do need to test out several brands to determine which one works best with your rifle.

Here's a link to an article that provides some background on subsonic rounds.

Your new rifle looks great! Everyone IMO needs to own both a .22 rifle and pistol. Great for training and for just having fun shooting at low cost. Plus good teaching aid for our grandkids!

Regards

Wal-Mart used to have a skinny T-handle one-piece rod maybe 3' long? I forget who made it, maybe Outers? I keep one in the case along with my S&W 15-22--I sometimes forget it is there. ;) I have a couple of them because they are especially nice for the .22s.

Maybe find a rubber O-ring that will fit under the protector? If you look closely at the inside, it may even have an end that is machined for one

Definitely read the OM to see what they say about ammo selection. Light, "quieter" loads may not cycle the action. I suppose that won't be a "bad" thing if you don't mind cycling manually. I have these CCI "Quiet-22" that are only like 680fps or something like that. Even more sub than subsonic... :D

Husker, I know people have a Love / Hate view of boresnakes but I've had good luck with them including for .22 cal rifles. The problem many have is using then over and over until one day they break and are stuck in the barrel. Got to treat them as expendables and replace them after so many uses.

Regards

P.S. As Bobster said above and I mentioned earlier, you need to find a subsonic round that your rifle likes and provides good cycling. And everyone of these rifles are different, even two of the same make and model. If it were me I'd run 2-3 hundred rounds of standard velocity ammo to break in the gun before trying subsonic candidates.

Technically I have a suppressor that would thread on to this barrel, but it's one I use on a 9mm Extar EP-9. Light enough but likely too bulky and the extra diameter would not suppress a .22 much.. I've got some Federal American Eagle 45gr subsonic .22LR on order that I'll try, but I have a hunch that most sub-s ammo for .22LR is primarily for bolt guns. I should probably be posting this in the AMMO section. ;)

I did a little reading and the overwhelming consensus is not to use a 9mm can on a rimfire; even if it threads on. Rimfire ammo will foul up the larger diameter can in very short order. Plus the extra size and weight make it a bad choice overall.

Unless someone comes out with an inexpensive Form 1 .22 suppressor kit, I'm shelving the idea to suppress the Rossi.
